We are Either/Or Collective, a fully independent game studio located in Vancouver, BC. Our studio ethos is built on genuine love and passion for artistically-driven video games. We’re currently developing Give up the Ghost, an atmospheric mystery RPG set in a strange city at the center of the world.
We've successfully run a Kickstarter campaign for the project, and have built up a small but enthusiastic community surrounding our work! We are a skeleton crew of five: a writer, an artist, a programmer, a composer and a sound designer – now all we need is a talented animator who could breathe life into our visual elements and tie the game together!
2D GAME ANIMATOR
We are looking for a 2D Animator familiar with Unity for our indie point-and-click game Give up the Ghost!
This is a remote freelance contract position. You will be paid per assignment, on a biweekly basis. Rates are negotiable!What we're looking for:
- Spline/rig-based character and environment animations using Spine, Blender, Unity or any software equivalents, working with pre-existing art assets.- We're aiming for a theatre-puppet animation style, reminiscent of Machinarium, Pentiment, and Darkest Dungeon. Our game has a dark and gothic atmosphere, so the character animation won’t be too bouncy or cartoony, but still emotive and capable of depicting a wide range of personalities.

- We're looking for someone who can produce subtle environment animations (smoke billowing, clouds moving, vegetation swaying, fire effects… all 2D) in a style that's cohesive with the character animations. Bonus points if you are able to produce UI animations too!- Proficiency in importing and managing your animations within Unity, ensuring the animations are exported in compatible formats; familiarity with version control (GitHub or Plastic SCM).How to apply:

Give up the Ghost is a point-and-click roleplaying game set in a strange and tortured city. Play as the Overseer, a one-eyed wanderer tasked to solve the mystery of a deadly fire.
Taking inspiration from legendary games like Disco Elysium and Planescape: Torment, Give up the Ghost is a story-based roleplaying adventure. Explore the dark streets of the city Forde, talk to the locals who live there, search for answers, and unveil a terrible secret. Confront the city’s past -- and through the choices you make in conversation -- you’ll determine the course of its future.
Give up the Ghost was born from a collective passion for roleplaying games and a dedication to creating art. The four of us met in university, brought together from disparate countries under a shared love of craft, and an awareness of the precarity from which good art originates. We’ve grown this story from the ground up. What began as a project in first-year became the central focus of our degree -- and has since become a fully-fledged RPG.Perhaps we’ve yet to be jaded by the cruelty of industry, but every day spent working on Give up the Ghost has been a labor of love. We can’t wait to share what we’ve made, and give back to good art what has been given to us.
